DECLUTTERING MADE EASY

A FEW WEEKS AGO jase and i did a massive overhaul in our closets with a few friends. we buckled down in our master bedroom and didn’t leave until we went through each item.

to our surprise, we were holding on to so many items we didn’t love anymore and ended up being able to donate so many more pieces than we expected. it felt so good!

now that we’ve been able to get rid of the excess in one area of our home, it has really inspired me to DECLUTTER and ORGANIZE the rest of my life. the other benefit of this clean out is that it has also made me so much more aware when I am shopping for either more clothes or other items; i am constantly asking myself now –– do i need this? will i wear it more than just a few times? do i love this for my home? how does it make me feel? just seeing something my eye is drawn to and immediately purchasing is a long lost art for me now.

i have honestly come to the conclusion that less is more. and if you can do it, saving up to buy the quality item that will last longer is better in the long run than spending money on an item (or many items) that will tarnish and fade.

decluttering can be hard, but after doing a few times, i have come to learn a few practices that will help. here are my easy steps to decluttering and making space for more meaning in your home.

if you run out of hangers in your closet or space in your drawers, it’s time for a bigger cleanout

in the words of marie kondo, if something doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it

find a close friend that can come in and help you determine what you don’t need anymore (this was huge for us!)

have a place for everything and if any space gets too full, go through it and give things away

do frequent check-ins on hall closets or extra storage spaces and get rid of things you haven’t used in a while

do these few things every few months, and it will only GET EASIER and easier to part with things
