OUR HOME TOUR

i am so excited to finally reveal to you a project we’ve been working on for the past few months; and really for the past two years. in early 2019, jase and i moved out of our home in the heart of los angeles and headed for the malibu hills. we found the most beautiful house tucked in the mountains; with good bones and a lovely neighborhood, but it did need a little bit of renovation work. everyone told us that the renovating process would take time, but we didn’t think that it would be as excessive as everyone was portraying. we were wrong. we pushed our closing a few weeks past our normal closing date as the woolsey fire took over the hills, coming to the edge of our backyard and burning down the house directly next door. this added another task ahead, fire remediation, which added a whole other element of renovation. we lived out of suitcases in in-between spaces for what we thought would be two months, and it ended up being eight. not to mention, the expenses of everything kept accruing from circumstances that were completely out of our control. i am a crazy organized person when it comes to projects, and i went into this one with so much excitement yet also went into it not quite knowing what to expect. we experienced numerous delays from interior designer mishaps, which forced me to figure out how to make endless design decisions on my own. i felt like i was in an unexpected internship, and even though the process was overwhelming, i am grateful for the eventual passion it grew in me for renovating a home.

i should pause to say, jase and i feel so beyond blessed to have a home and to have been able to go through the process that we did. we did not take one step for granted and recognized how incredibly fortunate we were to make this house our own. but i always strive to be as open and honest as possible with you guys. we have created a loving and cozy home, but the journey was not easy and not perfect. for those of you who are in the process of creating your own sanctuary, whether it’s from the ground up or just redecorating a room, i hope these series of posts sharing the story of our home renovation encourage you. have grace for the place you’re in, and try your best to enjoy the process because it is truly so rewarding in the end.

we are finally settled in our house and it has made a world of difference in our lives. the power of a space to call home truly is unmatched. it has changed our everyday pace and has greatly impacted our mental and emotional health as well as our love for our community and this season. i hope you enjoy seeing a piece of our world that means so much to us, and stay tuned as each week we’ll cover a room from the renovation sharing all of the nitty gritty details of furniture, accessories, paint colors and more.
