Welcome to the LSK Blog

lsk-feat.jpg

We are so excited to welcome you to LSK! If you have been a loyal reader of lolo mag, we are positive that you will continue to love this site. If you are new to the blog, we are excited to have you here and hope to have you here daily for a few moments each day. The hope with LSK (short for Lauren Scruggs Kennedy, of course) is to make it a haven of wellness and honesty, a place where we support and celebrate each other, share tips for living our best lives, and ignite honest talk.

I am so excited to share with you how the healing and growth from my accident, the sweet experiences and adjustments after marrying my best friend, and the daily journey after moving to an entirely new city away from family and life long besties (tears) have ignited in me a desire to learn how to balance life. We want to invite you to a community where we can dream together, grow together, change together, and chat together!

There will be style inspiration still and plenty of fashion talk as well. In addition, we will be sharing recipes, juice shops and health spots, dreamy interiors, and stories of people gathering around the table. If you like the sound of all of this, you are in the right place! We want to say thank you to Julie Solomon for her passion and dedication to the vision of LSK, as well as Chase Jennings for his brilliant redesign of the site. Here's to the new year and this amazing journey! We are so thankful to have you along for the ride.

Love, Lo

Tea Time

tea-time.jpg

Tea time is the best time! Part of my evening ritual (during the week) is drinking a cup of tea before bed. It's the perfect way to unwind and makes for an enjoyable transition between awake and sleep. I just started drinking sakara sleep tea and love it, but I also love rishi turmeric ginger tea. Below are links to teas, mugs, and teapots that I am loving. [image via anthropologie

A Dry Shampoo For Every Hair Color: Stranded

dry-shampoo.jpg

I hope you all had the most special and reflective New Year. I always love a fresh start and can't wait for what 2017 holds. I must preface: the last two weeks of 2016 were extra special because we launched our dry shampoo powder, Stranded, as well as The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation, and both are so near and dear to my heart.2016_12_13_lolomag8-178-editLet's talk Stranded! I am so thrilled to introduce you to the loose powder, dry shampoo suitable for blondes, brunettes and red heads (yippee!!). It all started four years ago in our apartment with my bestie, Anna Beth, brainstorming on how we could create a legit dry shampoo without using baby powder or harmful aerosols! After SO much learning, praying, and trial and errors, it came to life! I am so thankful for how much we have learned through process, and I now have an extra respect for small business owners! Not to mention, we have learned how absolutely perfect the Lord's timing is - we never understood the delays until now because for the tiniest detailed reasons, it could not be a better launch time. 👱🏼‍♀️An extra fun fact: my sister and her husband joined our team almost two years ago! Extra extra fun facts: it is #parabenfree #sulfatefree #glutenfree AND #vegan 🙌🏻🍏 + we give a percentage of every sale to The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation! Stay tuned for exciting things ahead. Hint hint: a Dallas launch party will be happening in the Spring!2016_12_13_lolomag8-161-edit 2016_12_13_lolomag8-151-edit 2016_12_13_lolomag8-138-edit 2016_12_13_lolomag8-131-edit 2016_12_13_lolomag8-125-edit

The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation

lsk-foundation.jpg

After my accident, my prosthetic arms brought another level of healing and wholeness, and it broke my heart to know insurance failed to provide for many. I couldn't be more excited to announce that the Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation has launched! We exist to bring hope, restore dignity, and ignite faith in girls and women by providing beautiful cosmetic coverings for prostheses. Read more about our story and mission on our website to see how you can get involved, or maybe you know someone we can serve. P.S. Any Stranded purchase gives a percentage to the foundation!

Following up on our thoughts for the new year post from Tuesday, I want to chat a little bit more about saving more and spending less. Anyone else making this a priority in 2017? I would love to hear from you in the comment section below. Saving money is a hard thing, as needs and wants are real. However, this year I am making it my heart's mission to resist most wants and stay strictly to the need list when making purchases. Working in the fashion industry is a major blessing and I am so thankful for what I do, but it does make the desire for new sartorial items quite strong. This year, I want to be more aware and conscious of the desire to shop, and have the control to reel it in when necessary. Something that I *try* to always keep in mind is this: appreciate more, accumulate less. I plan to write this down and repeat it on the regular, when something new catches my eye that I don't actually need / xx meliss

Los Angeles Favorite: Carasoin Spa.

los-angeles-favorites.jpg

I have realized time and time again these last two years that it takes TIME to find your places in a new city: the yoga studio, the facial haven, the cozy breakfast spot. It also takes a lot of trials and errors and can sometimes feel a bit discouraging. Personal side note: I have been clinging very tightly to my Dallas spots, which makes every visit quite full of appointments. I recently made a pact with myself to find my Cali places so the precious time in Texas could fully be dedicated to family, friends, and relaxation.Enter the hidden gem: Carasoin. I saw this recommendation from a friend on Snapchat and immediately took a screen shot, and I am so glad I did! Carasoin is the combination of two French words, Caress and Soigner, that embody the principles and philosophies of this spa; to revitalize your skin, body and soul while creating an experience that leaves you feeling exquisite. This day spa and clinic did just that and absolutely exceeded my expectations.

The moment you walk into the spa, it feels extra special. Carasoin is owned by the most lovely couple, and it is an embodiment of a lifelong dream by it’s Founder, Lena Bratschi. It is so special because they personalize your treatment based on your skincare needs that day. While Lena was treating my skin, I asked her how she became passionate about her business. Her answer only made me love her more! She was super close to her granny growing up, who lived in the midst of beautiful gardens in Switzerland, and she would go make homemade beauty products straight from the plants. #dreamOther fun facts about Lena: she grew up in Switzerland, the land of incredible spas and relocated to London to pursue the best in skincare education, Lena attained the prestigious CIDESCO qualification, the highest internationally recognized certification for beauty/skincare, becoming one of only a handful of professionals in the USA to boast this qualification.More about this dream spot: Nestled in the very heart of West Hollywood, Carasoin is a full service boutique day spa and skin clinic featuring both hands-on and cutting edge machine based treatments, from Anti-Ageing Facials to Deep Tissue Massage and Body Scrubs & Wraps to chemical peels. The spa is a mix of British and Swiss sensibilities, designed to provide a chic and intimate setting; one which feels more like you’re stepping in to an elegant home, even though you have just entered an advanced Day Spa & Skin Clinic that showcases the highest standards in skincare. Yes please!

Practicing Patience

practicing-patience.jpg

Yesterday we shared a post on thoughts for the new year and one of those things was practicing patience. Something I have been praying for a lot lately is patience. Having patience, showing and feeling patience, and giving patience has always been a struggle for me. However, I completely realize the importance of it and lately I have been craving it hard, and seeking it wholeheartedly. Most of all, I want to be patient in faith, as I wait on God’s timing. His timing is by far the best, but my head sometimes does not always get this memo. My heart does though, because His timing is what my soul needs and wants. Sometimes I lose sight of the big picture, and get so caught up in my “plan” and what and when I think things need to happen. Instead, I want to be much more intentional in putting my “plans” on the backburner, and wait patiently for Him and His plan. It’s laughable how much better His plan is for me, compared to mine! I am making 2017 the year of patience and I hope you will join me, if patience is something that you want more of as well / xo
